It won't be located in a galaxy far, far away because it's being built right in our neighborhood!
The Lucas Museum of Narrative Art officially broke ground in Exposition Park on Wednesday, March 14, 2018. Among those who participated in the ceremony were museum co-founders George Lucas and Mellody Hobson, Mayor Eric Garcetti, LA County Supervisor Mark Ridley-Thomas, City Councilmember Curren Price as well as filmmakers Francis Ford Coppola and Steven Spielberg. NANDC President Adrienne Kuhre and board member & Policy Committee Chair Jean Frost were also present representing the neighborhood council and its district.
Over the last year, NANDC met with Lucas Museum representatives several times in order to provide constructive feedback on the development of this major local project. On May 8, 2017, NANDC submitted a letter to the LA City Planning Commission expressing unanimous board support for the art organization writing, "We are grateful for this gift which will provide our community with greater access to the arts and educational opportunities for generations to come." The museum is slated to open in 2021.
