The NANDC Board reviewed and supported the 1190 West 29th Street development in the North University Park Specific Plan area. It is a fine example of the design review process insuring that new development is compatible with the neighborhood character. The initially proposed project began with a four-story stucco design with surface parking.
Developers Brian and Felix Wong worked with the North University Park Design Review Board to achieve this example of a positive design review process, studying the existing buildings on the block to achieve compatibility. They subsequently met with the NANDC Policy Committee and, after several iterations (see initial designs below), the project evolved into a three-story streamlined Mediterranean-style apartment with underground parking that utilizes a rear alley for access to enhance the landscaped front yard setback.
Brian and Felix met with the full board in December 2018, and the project received NANDC support.
